A discussion about relational vs object oriented databases has been going on for at least 30 years now. Can we really add to what has already been said? As it often happens, the real answer is – it depends. Depends on what? Depends on our perspective. If we jump to the nitty-gritty details of how each type of database handles various aspects of data persistence, ease and/or speed of manipulation, etc., we can easily get lost, and most likely will just regurgitate information readily available elsewhere. But if we zoom out and try to evaluate these approaches from the point of view of how faithfully or usefully they represent the reality, there is definitely a lot to be learned.
