The original IBM researchers that developed the mathematical theory behind relational databases have complained for years that all database vendors created a wrong implementation and those databases aren’t relational at all. There are many problems/questions, and very few answers; many books that just confuse you more …and few that make things clear.
You can often learn how to write commands that will return some sort of results, but understanding why these commands work or why these results are what is needed is often beyond our ability. It’s a long and winding road to at least some level of competency.
To add insult to injury, there are many people along the way who will claim to understand databases just because they saw a reflection of a dolphin (MySQL logo, for those who are wondering).
This constitutes a double difficulty of students not knowing what they don’t know, and teachers not fully understanding that the material that they teach is truly treacherous.
